Our lives are often busy and our minds full of thoughts. It can be so easy for our time with GOD to become solely about laying out the issues to be solved and waiting for HIM to give us our next mission. There is yet another focus in our time with GOD. One that seems to get clouded by the cares of this life and the misrepresentation of GOD.
Have you ever considered that GOD wants to be your friend? If you already know this, how’s that friendship doing. What’s your definition of a friend. Here are a few scriptures about our friendship with GOD.
James 4:8 (NLT)
“Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”
John 15:15-16a (NLT)
“I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you.”
We see the friendship of GOD with Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, the 12 disciples, and many others.
What a privilege and an honor it is that the GOD of the universe wants to spend time with you. HE wants to be known by you. The reconciliation provided by Christ’s death and resurrection is to redeem us back to this type of relationship.
Have you been missing out on the fullness of this friendship that we have access to? Have you been spending time with your friend? Maybe you don’t see GOD as a friend yet. Maybe to you, HE’s been solely a Father who teaches lessons and gives you what you need; or solely the Righteous Judge who wants you to get it right.
Today, renew your mind as it pertains to your relationship with GOD. Come close to GOD and HE will come close to you. Show up as you would at a friend’s house. Not rushing the time or dictating the agenda. Focus on spending time. Everything else you need will follow with ease.
